Former South African President Jacob Zuma’s daughter accused over 2021 riots

Johannesburg:

Duduzil Zuma-Ambudla, a daughter of former South African President Jacob Zuma, appeared in court on Thursday after allegations of violence during riots in 2021, killing more than 300 people.

A lawyer from Zuma-Ambudla said that she would request not to be guilty.

Prosecutors alleged that Zuma-Ambudala provoked others in July 2021 to perform the acts of violence in posts on social media, when arrest his father to disregard the court order to testify in the investigation of corruption. After the unrest broke out.

What started as anger on Zuma’s jaeling turned into anger on poverty and inequality, causing thousands of shops to loot, public infrastructure and about 350 people killed.

Financial damage from riots was estimated at 50 billion rand ($ 2.70 billion).

He was released on warning until the presence of another court prescribed for March.

After the end of the court sentence in 2022, Zuma supported a new political party Umkhonto V Sizway (MK), which was a major disruption in the last year’s national election.

MK won 58 parliamentary seats, contributed to a sharp decline in support of the African National Congress (ANC), which Zuma led. ANC was forced into a broad alliance with hosting other small parties.

Zuma-Ambudla is one of the MPs of MK in the lower house of Parliament.
