If ‘Prachanda’ failed then ‘Oli’ staked claim to form government, now when will Nepal get a new PM?

Prachanda Government Loses Confidence: In Nepal, situated in the lap of Himalayas, on Friday (July 12), Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda could not prove majority in the Parliament. At the same time, President Ramchandra Paudel gave the political parties a deadline till Sunday to prove their majority. Even before that, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli staked claim to form a new government.

It is clear that the political turmoil in Nepal is going to last for a few more days. Talking about the President’s deadline, the members of the House will have to present majority with the support of the parties represented in the Lower House by 5 pm on Sunday. Earlier, the President asked Prachanda to remain on the post of Prime Minister as caretaker till the new government is formed.

Finally defeated in the fifth attempt

If we understand the political developments of Nepal in detail, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ lost the floor test in the House in the afternoon. At least 138 votes were required to get the trust vote. 258 members of the House of Representatives participated in the voting, while one member remained absent. Prachanda, president of Nepal Communist Party-Maoist Center (CPN-MC), succeeded in getting the trust vote four times after assuming office on December 25, 2022, but this time he failed.

Mathematics of Numbers with KP Sharma Oli!

Former Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli-led Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) withdrew support to the Prachanda-led government last week after signing a power-sharing agreement with Nepali Congress, the largest party in the House. Was. Nepali Congress has 89 seats in the House of Representatives, while CPN-UML has 78 seats. In this way, the combined number of both is 167, which is much more than the 138 required for majority in the lower house.

Will the Prime Minister of Nepal change by rotation?

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has already supported Oli as the next Prime Minister. Deuba and Oli had signed a seven-point agreement on Monday to oust the Prachanda-led government and form a new coalition government. As per the agreement, Oli and Deuba will share the post of Prime Minister by rotation during the remaining term of the House of Representatives.

In the first phase, Oli will become the Prime Minister for one and a half years and after that Deuba will be the Prime Minister for the remaining period.
