The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Illinois has launched an innovative bachelor’s degree program that combines the principles of chemical engineering with rigorous training in data science. The degree of Chemical Engineering + Data Science (Cheme + DS) will prepare a graduate to take advantage of large data in the chemical engineering sector to make specificly informed decision making and guide the design options.
Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are being universal in many scientific fields – including chemical engineering – and this digital change is being collected large -scale data sets during research and all stages of industrial processes. The purpose of the Illinois Cheme+DS program is to help meet that demand.
The students enrolled in the Cheme+DS program will complete the core chemical engineering courses, including mass and energy balance, thermo-fluid mechanics, kinetics, separation and more. Additionally, they will take a collection of data science classes – such as data analytics, probability and statistical methods, data cures and morality – from the school of the school of computer science, statistics, mathematics and information science. In their senior year in a practicum course, students will implement their training during internships or research experiences.

It is one of the many “X + Data Science” degree introduced by Program-I KU that combines data science along with other subjects and is designed to meet the developed needs of the industry and ensures this. That graduates are well prepared for the modern workplace.
