The Government of India on Friday expanded the Aadhaar certification service for both public and private institutions in many areas. This expansion was part of a recent amendment launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The ministry said that the ease of reaching the authentication service will ease innovation, knowledge and public service growth in various services. The government also said that this step will improve transparency and inclusion in the decision -making process of qualified institutions.

In particular, to be eligible to reach the base certification service, institutions have to apply through a specific format with details of the requirements intended to the concerned ministry or department of the state government. Applications will be investigated by India’s Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI), and approval will be issued by Meity based on the recommendation of UIDAI.
In particular, the new amendment amends the law introduced in 2020, which prohibits access to the base authentication service of private institutions. Law was presented after the Supreme Court forbidden Private institutions asking for Aadhaar data citing reasons like data security and privacy.
