India is not neutral, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a strong message on the Russia-Ukraine war during a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House today. He reiterated that India stands with peace, appreciating Trump’s efforts to end the war.
The Prime Minister said, “India is not neutral. India is siding with peace. I have already told President Putin that this is not an era of war. I support the efforts taken by President Trump.”
His comment was a day later when Trump made separate phone calls with Vladimir Putin of Russia and Volodimier Zelancesi of Ukraine. His move came as a blow for Ukraine and European colleagues, with several emphasis they and Kiev need a seat on the conversation table.
In his first confirmed contact since Trump returned to the White House, the US President said he had a “highly productive” conversation with his Russian counterpart, who ordered the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
On Thursday, Trump insisted that Ukraine would be “part of the talks” and he was convinced that Putin “wanted peace”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India are emphasizing that it is “the era of war but the era of dialogue and diplomacy”. Since the Ukraine struggle began in February last year, PM Modi has talked to Russian President Vladimir Putin several times to Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelansky.
He met the two leaders separately last year.
