Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto quipped during a dinner hosted by President Draupadi Murmu on Sunday that he has “Indian DNA”, evoking laughter among dignitaries including the President, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. . Mr Subianto made the remarks while talking about his relations with India.

“India and Indonesia have a long, ancient history. We have civilizational ties, even now a very important part of our language comes from Sanskrit. Mr Subianto also praised PM Modi’s leadership and commitment towards eradicating poverty and helping the marginalized and affirmed that he has learned a lot from him in just a few days.

The event featured Indonesia’s Gendarang Suling Kanka Lokananta, a 190-member band of the Indonesian Military Academy (Akamil), which embodies discipline and military tradition.

During the three-day visit of the Indonesian President to India, the two countries signed and renewed five MoUs on a wide range of areas including health, traditional medicine and maritime security.
