Japan will face more heavy snow after two weeks of whiteout, the country’s weather agency said on Monday, warning people to be careful with avalanche and icy roads.
The areas of the country facing the ocean of Japan experience heavy snowfall every year and many ski resorts are homes, which attract the increasing number of tourists from abroad.
But many cities have seen record snowfall this month, causing traffic disintegration and ambush.
Japan’s Meteorological Agency (JMA) said that more snowfall is expected in some western regions including Nigata, Ishikawa and Nagano provinces as well as Hiroshima and Shimen Provinces.
The agency also warned people to be cautious of avalanche in those areas, icy roads and water pipes.
On Monday, at 10:00 am (0100 GMT), the city of North Aomori recorded five meters (16 feet) snow, Niigata’s Uonuma recorded 3.81 meters, and the Fukushima prefects recorded 3.13 meters.
