Bengaluru:
The Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Monday passed the Greater Bengaluru government bill amid protests by the opposition BJP.
The bill is related to the reorganization of Bruhat Bengaluru Metropolitan Palik (BBMP) by dividing them into maximum seven city corporations in the Bengaluru region.
It provides for a more and more Bangalore Authority for the Constitution and 30 months terms for the Constitution and the Meyer and Deputy Mayor for coordination and supervision.
In the assembly, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar organized Bengaluru Vikas Portfolio in the Assembly.
DK Shivkumar said, “We want power and decentralization of administration. We are not destroying Bengaluru because some opposition members have said. Instead, we are strengthening it. We want to strengthen Bengaluru.” He said that a bill has been brought to give a new direction to Bengaluru.
Disagreeing with his statement, Leader of Opposition, R Ashok said that the bill is an insult to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who wanted to strengthen local bodies.
He alleged that the Congress is paving the way for other local bodies to increase the same demand to divide them into several divisions. R Ashok said, “Dividing Bangalore will not help us.”
Will do, “Mr. Vishwanath said.
