Labor Minister Mansuh Mandavia says that more than 4 crore jobs have been added in the last one year


Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandavia said on Wednesday that 17.1 crore jobs were created in the country in a decade from 2014 to 2024, and 4.6 crore of them were added alone in the last one year.

Addressing the post-budget webinar, she noted a significant decline in unemployment rates, 3.2% from 6% to 2023-24 in 2017-18, and in the same period, a significant increase in women’s employment from 22% to 40.3%.

The minister attributed these achievements to the progressive policies of the government which have strengthened the workforce of the country.

Mandavia also highlighted the impact of the government’s social security initiatives citing the ILO World Social Security Report 2024-26, with India’s social security coverage doubled by 24.4%.

He said that the expansion of the e -ram portal, covers more than 30.67 crore unorganized workers, and the inclusion of gold workers under PMJay, strengthens the government’s commitment to workforce welfare, he said.

The government has also integrated 12 major welfare schemes under e-rank and has mentioned the portal in 22 Indian languages, mentioned.

Additionally, to support the families of workers, 10 new ESIC medical colleges have been approved, with 10 more plans in the pipeline, he said.

Mandavia confirmed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s investment in its people is shaping a strong, self -sufficient nation, which ensures long -term benefits for generations to come.

Sumita Davra, Secretary, Labor and Employment, drew attention to the major progress in modernizing the provident fund organization of the employees, including enrollment of more than 6.2 crore new members in six and a half years and centralized pension processing systems, auto-colors of PF claims, and improvement to strengthen infrastructure.

Dawra also underlined the expansion of ESIC – 3.72 crore in 2024 and 165 hospitals in 2024 and growing healthcare networks in 165 hospitals and 1,590 dispensaries in 2014.

He emphasized progress in technological development, especially the G20 feasibility study on the development of e-range and national career service portal, and international reference classifications that aim to be aimed at benching skills globally by 2026.

Davra said that integrating women in the stage ecosystem would be important to increase the participation of female labor force, given that it provides flexibility and has the ability to empower millions of interested women entrepreneurs and workers.

He confirmed the ministry’s commitment to work closely with stakeholders to finalize the social security scheme for the stage workers.
