Lakshmi said the last Maoist in Karnataka, Vidya Kumari, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi and Superintendent of Police Arun.
According to the police, Lakshmi, hiding in Andhra Pradesh, has three cases in Amacebel and Shankaranarayan police stations in Kundpur taluk of Udupi district. These cases lag behind 2007–2008, and they are related to the exchange of fire with police, attacks and pushing Maoist literature in villages and small cities.
Police said Lakshmi was originally belonging to Thomtu in Machchattu village of Kundpura taluk.
She was accompanied by Sripal and her husband Salim, a former Maoist who surrendered in Andhra Pradesh in 2020.
After separating her relationship with her family 15 years ago, Lakshmi went underground and was active in pursuing the Maoist agenda in Chikkamagaluru and Udupi districts.
“I tried to contact with the district officials and wanted to surrender after the Karnataka government announced the surrender protocol and package, but it did not happen for some reason. Now that the surrender committee was formed, then my The surrender has been made convenient, “Lakshmi today told reporters after her surrender.
He thanked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a generous surrender package and appealed to the district administration to give relief to all the allegations against him at police stations in Amacebel and Shankaranarayan in Kundpur taluk.
DC Vidya Kumari said that Lakshmi comes under a ‘one’ category candidate for surrender, and the criteria as a surrender package are entitled to receive Rs 7 lakhs under this category.
The ‘A’ category has been represented for the Naxalites born from the state of Karnataka, Kumari said.
DC said, “The surrender package will be given in stages spread for three years, and in addition, based on the main capacity of the surrender Naxalite, facilities such as education, rehabilitation and employment will be offered,” DC said.
Sripal of the State Surprise Committee told the journalists that the committee had recommended a rapid dealing of cases filed against the Maoists surrendered to the government, which helped them live a normal life in society. He said, “Due to the efforts of the committee, 22 Naxalite activists have so far surrendered in 2025 and Lakshmi is the last one to surrender in the state. Karnataka is now a ‘Naxal-free’ state,” he said.
Incidentally, after the surrender of Kothanda Ravindra in Chikkamgaluru on Saturday, the Chief Minister’s Office issued a press release stating that Karnataka is a Naxal-free state. It was also said that CM Siddaramaiah has announced the Chief Minister’s medal for 22 police officers and men’s teams, who have kept Karnataka in efforts to make a Naxal-free state.
Meanwhile, Sripal said that the Naxalites belonging to Karnataka and Kerala should be provided facilities to face a test in an integrated court in Nia Court in Bangalore or even in Bangalore. He said that he should also be extended by Defense Counsels.
