Man arrested for allegedly raping mentally challenged minor girl in Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam:

A 50-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a minor girl suffering from cerebral palsy near Visakhapatnam, police said.

Visakhapatnam North Assistant Commissioner of Police Appala Raju said B Yella Rao was detained for the alleged attack on the girl when she was alone at home in JV Agraharam village of Bhimili mandal in Visakhapatnam district.

According to Raju, the incident happened around 11 am on Tuesday when the girl’s grandmother went to graze the goats, leaving the girl alone.

Rao allegedly entered the house and assaulted her.

When the grandmother returned and found the door closed even though it was open, she saw an intoxicated Rao lying on top of the girl. The man pushed the grandmother while trying to escape, the ACP said.

Residents later caught hold of Rao and assaulted him, resulting in his hospitalization. She was discharged today and immediately arrested by the police under BNS Section 65, Section 1, as well as the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

Police said the girl’s parents work as laborers to support the family, while her 15-year-old sister is currently going to school.
