Manipur prepares to ensure free movement of people from today

Guwahati:

After 22 months of ban on the movement of Meiteis and Kukis in Manipur, in which more than 250 people were seen killed in a bloody ethnic clash, Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed the officials to ensure the free movement of people in all the routes of the state from Saturday.

The administration has already taken the initiative under the leadership of Manipur Governor Ak Bhalla as the state is under the rule of the President.

The government has arranged public buses that will run between the hills and the valley region, which survived by central forces from Saturday.

The Marg is Imphal-Kangpokpi-Senapati, Senapati-Kangpokpi-Empal, Imphal-Bishanupur-Chrachandpur and Churachandpur-Bishupur-Empal. Helicopter services between Imphal and Charachandpur and Ukharul will also start.

Since his struggle erupted in May 2023, there was a complete collapse of faith among these communities, Mathis left his homes in the cookie-cruel hills and the kukis have done similarly in Metei areas.

The situation deteriorated to such an extent that members of the two communities stopped traveling to areas where each is prominent. To reverse it and bring a normal position, Mr. Shah directed to fennel on both sides of the entry points designated with the border with Myanmar, they should be completed as soon as possible.

A proposed peace march on Saturday, to introduce the Center with the deadline of the Center for the start of the free movement on the highways, has created stress again.

Nearly 20 organizations’ valley-based groups, beyond the “March to the Hills” employed by the Federation of Civil Societies (FOCS), have been extended to the security in the Mitei-Wide Imphal and the surrounding hills.

“We are taking out this peace rally till Imphal Senapati to unite the valley and hills. We will go there and sit with them and discuss, we will not have any enmity between ourselves, Kukis and Nagas and we are all residents of Manipur,” said Manihar, the head of the Fox.

Reject call for free movement

Cookie organizations stated that the proposed March was a “dangerous provocative”, and warned FOCS members against entering the mountainous regions. The committee of tribal unity (COTU) also rejected Mr. Shah’s call for “free movement”.

The group stated that the “blessing breech” of the “buffer zone” would be facilitating March.

ITLF spokesman Ginja Wolzong said, “We welcome the movement of goods, but we do not welcome people’s movement due to security reasons and feelings are still very high among people.
