New Delhi:
Between the language row in Parliament, a Tamil Nadu MP has stated that “the northern states are 40 years to 40 years behind”, and that the people of Tamil Nadu dominate almost all areas due to the two-language formula.
Marumalarch Dravid Munnetra Kazgam (MDMK) and MP of the party’s head Vaiko, Durai Vaiko, held a meeting with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Mr. Vaiko, along with Tamil Nadu Education Minister Ambil Mahesh Poymoji, who urged the Union Minister to release the funds for the Rising India (PM Shri) scheme for the PM schools.
The Union Education Minister then said that Tamil Nadu will have to sign the National Education Policy, which leaves the policy of three languages. “Our Education Minister said that Tamil Nadu has excelled in PM Shri Yojana, so we are going to get wealth. Why are you tying it with NEP. He (Pradhan) said,” Tamil Nadu is 40 years behind and you should wake up, why are you not learning students? “
Mr. Vaiko said that when he got an opportunity to speak, he told the minister, “Tamil Nadu is not 40 years behind. Compared to the northern states, we are 40 years ahead.”
The MDMK leader said that except for the BJP, the political parties of Tamil Nadu have emphasized that they will not accept the three -language policy. “Since NEP emphasizes the three-language formula, we have suggested some changes. If they bring in changes, we do not object to signing it,” he said.
Mr. Vaiko, who represents Tiruchirappalli in the Lok Sabha, insisted that Tamil Nadu parties are not against Hindi. He said, “The Hindi practitioner meeting has been working in Chennai for 60-70 years. But we do not want to implement Hindi,” he said.
He batted for English and said that it was a means of communicating with people and India needed to master it as it pushes to become the third largest economy in the world.
“For the people of South (India), it has been a means of English progress. Tamilia should be around the world, in regions, it or medical science. They are dominating due to English skills and how we reached there: because of two language policy,” he said.
Political parties at Tamil Nadu and the Center have been stopped face to face on the national education policy and three-language formulas.
Union Education Minister Pradhan has accused the MK Stalin government of creating “Fear Psychosis” about three language formulas to promote Tamil in the state.
The minister said that when students in Tamil Nadu are choosing fast for English, the DMK government is questioning the need for three language formulas. Pradhan said, “No one is implementing anything to anyone. It is a democratic society and you have to be multilingual.” “The opposition of NEP 2020 has nothing to do with Tamil pride, protection of language and culture, but to do everything with getting political dividends.”
