Kolhapur:
Police said on Wednesday that more than 250 people fell ill due to suspected food poisoning after attending a village fair in Kolhapur district of western Maharashtra.
An official at the Kurundawad police station said that at present about 50 people were undergoing treatment at the hospital in Shirol and all of them were called stable.
He said that a fair was organized in Shivakwadi village on Tuesday, where a sweet preparation made of milk was given as ‘Prasad’.
“People started complaining of diarrhea, nausea and fever since this morning. So far, 255 people have fallen ill due to suspected food poisoning. Most of them are claiming that they had ‘kheer’ in the fair.” The officer said.
He said that more than 50 persons were undergoing treatment in the hospital and the rest were discharged, he said that all the admitted patients were stable.
“Food samples from the fair have been sent to the forensic laboratory, to find out if it is food poisoning,” the official said.
