The Income Tax Department has started a new ‘e-pay tax’ functionality on its official e-filing portal. This will allow taxpayers to pay direct tax payments digitally, without going to the bank or going to the bank.

This facility is designed to simplify the tax payment process and is available to both registered and unregistered users.
How to use e-pay tax feature?
To use service:
- Go to the official income tax e-filing portal and click on ‘e-pay tax’ under the ‘Quick Link’ section on the homepage.
- Enter your permanent account number (PAN) twice, as well as with your Aadhaar mobile number.
- Certify through the OTP received on your mobile. Once verified, the portal will display a masked version of your pan and name for confirmation.
- Select the financial year and relevant category as well as the type- Advance Tax, Self-Evaluation Tax, etc.
- Enter the amount applicable under various heads like tax, surcharge, interest, penalty, or others.
- Choose a favorite payment method from many available options.
- Review the details recorded and click on ‘Pay Now’ to proceed. After a successful transaction, a confirmation is sent via SMS and email. A payment receipt (invoice) can also be downloaded.
When to use e-blessings?
‘E-pay tax’ service can be used in the following scenarios:
- Payment of advance tax
- Self-assessment tax payment after calculating total tax liability
- Regular assessment tax payment after a notice from the department
- Deposit for TDS/TCS Didors or collectors
- Penal, interest or late fee payment
The portal offers a series of digital payment mode:
- Net banking (supported by major banks)
- Debit Card (including Rupay, Visa and MasterCard)
- UPI (through BHIM and other UPI-Enabled Apps)
- NEFT/RTGS (through authorized bank branches)
- Payment Gateway (for payment through credit card or digital wallet)
