NIA arrested the prominent accused in the Chandigarh Grenade attack case

New Delhi:

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has achieved a major success in the Chandigarh grenade attack case with the arrest of a resident of Punjab, which played an important role in the entire conspiracy masterminded by foreign-based Khalistani terrorists in an official statement released on Wednesday.

Pakistan -based individual terrorist Harvinder Singh Sandhu alias Randa and Harpreet Singh alias Happy Pasia in US were one of the four accused in the case by the NIA last month.

In the latest arrest, Abhijot Singh of Gurdaspur (Punjab) was taken into custody by the NIA, who identified him as an unknown person, whose role was revealed during the investigation in the case, in the statement issued by the investigating agency.

Abhijeet, already found in jail in jail for another grenade attack at a police station, was found in direct contact with a significant part of the conspiracy, it was said.

The NIA investigation has revealed that Abhijot had held a detailed reconnaissance of the target location several times in July and August 2024 on Happy’s instructions. He arranged a motorcycle with a fake number plate for use in execution of crime. The vehicle was found to be stolen, the NIA said.

The investigation has also revealed that Happy had provided a pistol to Abhijeet and another already arrested accused Rohan Masih during August 2024.

The September 2024 attack was aimed at targeting a retired Punjab Police Officer, who was considered to be a living in the House in Sector 10, Chandigarh.

According to Nia’s findings, Abhijot and Rohan had visited the target house twice in August, but failed to carry out the crime.

The investigating agency said, “After Abhijot’s arrest, the NIA made a discovery at one place in Karral, Haryana, to highlight the entire boundary of the conspiracy this morning and identify other suspects in the case,” the investigating agency said.
