Jhansi. Everyone knows about the air bags installed in four-wheelers. This small invention of air bag has saved so many lives. Imagine if air bags start being installed in two wheelers also, then who would not like it? The question is where will it be installed in the bike and how will it look. The number of deaths due to road accidents is continuously increasing in the country. In this too, the largest number are those riding motorcycles. To reduce these accidents, ‘Road Safety Campaign’ is also being run by the government. The scheme of ‘No Helmet, No Petrol’ has also been introduced. Bundelkhand University of Jhansi has also come forward to contribute to this mission of road safety.

The team of Bundelkhand University is engaged in developing a technology which will provide safety to the bike rider just like the car. The Central Government has approved the patent on the technology of air bag system for two wheelers of the university. Technology Enabling Center of Bundelkhand University is working on the technology of installing air bag system in bikes.

Dr. Lavkush Dwivedi of Innovation Center of Bundelkhand University, Dr. Awadhesh Pratap Singh Gaur, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department, Mohammad Numan Alam, Neelendra Pratap, B.Tech Mechanical Engineering student, on this technology of installing air bag system in two-wheelers like cars. The team of Singh, Somesh Narayan Tripathi and Prateek Kumar Singh is working.

Dr. Lavkush Dwivedi told that under this technology, air bags and many sensors will be installed under the seat in the motorcycle. In case of a collision, an alert signal will be generated through the impact processing unit. If the collision exceeds the prescribed limit then this air bag deployment unit will be activated. After this the air bags will open. It will cover the driver from all sides and provide protection to the driver up to the top of the head. This will save the driver’s life and minimize injuries.
