NPCI International Payments, QNB sign agreement to launch QR code-based UPI payments across Qatar

NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) has signed an agreement with Qatar-headquartered QNB to launch QR code-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments across the country.

NIPL said the initiative will enable UPI payment acceptance in Qatar through QNB (the largest financial institution in the Middle East and Africa) merchant network, benefiting Indian travelers arriving and transiting in the country.

“This partnership will provide Indian tourists the option to use their preferred payment method at retail outlets, tourist attractions, leisure destinations, duty-free shops and hotels.

“This announcement is particularly significant as Indians form the second largest group of international visitors to Qatar,” NIPL said in a statement.

“The adoption of UPI payments will also enable Qatari merchants to offer faster and more convenient payment and checkout processes, thereby increasing customer satisfaction and opening up numerous opportunities for businesses across the country,” it added.
