NPCI clarification
The major explanations provided by NPCI include:
The transaction requires the user authority: Just an UPI or banking app opening does not start or approve payment. Users will have to actively authorize the transaction by clicking on the “pay” button and entering their UPI PIN.
Safe user control: The UPI operates as a user’s registered mobile number and a device-specific system attached to the device. The outer side cannot directly request or withdraw money without user action.
Pin-protected characteristics: Even a balance inquiry requires an UPI pin, and this step automatically does not approve any other transaction.
The NPCI confirmed the security and reliability of UPI, citing its strong security protocols and regulatory measures.
This reminded users to avoid being cautious and sharing confidential details.
