Over 300 million Gen Alpha workers to enter India’s workforce by 2030: Report – CNBC TV18

Generation Alpha is set to revolutionize India’s workforce over the next decade, a new report says. The Future of Work 2024 report by Indeed and NASSCOM projects that more than 300 million Gen Alpha people will enter the job market by 2030.

Gen Alpha includes people born between 2010 and 2024. With more than 2 billion people, it is considered the largest generation in human history.

The report notes that Gen Alpha is expected to join the workforce at an earlier age than previous generations, largely due to the shift toward skills-based hiring and the increasing prominence of certifications over degrees.

“They (Gen Alpha) will be part of a job market governed by artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, meaning adaptive skills and continuous learning will be critical to their success,” the report said.

The report argues that Gen Alpha will bring about major shifts in the 5.4 million-strong tech industry workforce, currently populated by Baby Boomers and Generation X due to their expected technological influx.

“Gen Alpha will probably be the first true ‘AI natives.’ This generation will push us to rethink what work means and how it gets done,” says Sashi Kumar, head of sales at Indeed.

Learning, unlocking and relating will be the success mantra for Gen Alpha, who form about 20% of India’s population. The report states that companies are valuing continuous learning as an important skill when hiring candidates.

At least 50% of the future workforce is ready for the challenges that tech-driven Industry 4.0 may pose. “This increased confidence is reflective of a conducive learning environment, including increased opportunities for online learning and greater industry-academia collaboration,” the report said.

‘AI fluency’ and continuous learning will be two big skills for Gen Alpha workers, according to the annual report.

Additionally, intangible skills such as communication, analytical thinking, problem-solving, leadership and creativity will help round out the shape of the generation.

“Workplaces are more than just technology. No matter how advanced AI gets, it can’t replace the ability to have a meaningful conversation or navigate a difficult team. It’s this blend of digital flow and human connection that will define their success in the workplace,” says Kumar.
