Some VIP numbers are being sold for more than the price of the car. According to Times of India, this year various transport offices of the country have auctioned fancy numbers for lakhs of rupees. Some of these numbers are such that their price is more than that of a full size SUV.
Some of the most sought after fancy numbers of vehicles in the country were numbers like 0001, 0002, 0007, which people bought by paying lakhs of rupees. These numbers are sold by RTO through online auction. Information about the numbers sold in the auction is available on the website of the regional RTO.
Spent 23 lakhs for this number!
According to information received from Delhi RTO, the most expensive fancy number auctioned in March was worth Rs 23 lakh. Earlier in 2017, it was sold for Rs 16 lakh. Apart from this, number 0009 stood second in the most expensive auction for which people paid Rs 11 lakh.
Number related to Dhoni is also expensive
Let us tell you that the player number 0007 of former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was also in great demand. This number was auctioned in January for Rs 10.8 lakh, whereas in June it was sold for Rs 5 lakh. Apart from Dhoni, this number is also known for the James Bond film. In June, the cheapest number was 4444 which was auctioned for Rs 1,60,000.
These numbers were in highest demand
RTOs collect revenue worth crores of rupees every year by auctioning fancy numbers. Everyone from celebrities, politicians and businessmen to MPs and MLAs and senior bureaucrats are involved in buying these numbers. Talking about fancy numbers which are in highest demand, these include numbers like 0001, 0002, 0005, 0006, 0007, 0008, 0009 and 1111.
