How is Shraddha performed?
In Pitru Paksha, according to the date of Shraddha of the ancestors, Shraddha should be performed with devotion for the peace of the ancestors. According to Pt. Anand Dubey, if the death anniversary of ancestors is not known, then Shraddha can be organized on Pitru Visarjani Amavasya, 2 October 2024.
Simple method of performing Shraddha-
Wake up early in the morning on the date on which you have to perform Shraddha of your ancestors. Wear clean clothes after bathing. Sanctify the ancestral place by smearing it with cow dung and with Ganga water. After taking bath, women should prepare satvik food for the ancestors. Invite Brahmins in advance for the Shraddha feast. After the arrival of Brahmins, make them worship and offer prayers to their ancestors. Offer cow’s milk, curd, ghee and kheer in the fire for the sake of ancestors. Feed the Brahmin with respect. Donate as per your capacity. After this, take blessings and bid them farewell. In Shraddha, apart from ancestors, there is a tradition of feeding food to gods, cows, dogs, crows and ants.
