PM departed for being the chief guest on National Day, for Mauritius state trip




New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for Mauritius late on Monday night on a two -day state visit. He will participate in the National Day celebrations on March 12 as the chief guest.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that the journey is towards “strengthening India-Opers Standing Relations”.

“Strengthening the Indo-Operations Permanent Relations! PM @narendramodi has started a 2-day state trip to Port Louis, Mauritius. PM will participate in Mauritius’ National Day celebrations as the chief guest and also meet Mauritius’s leadership and dignitaries,” Mia Spocker Bhandhira Jaishwal said in a post.

In his departure statement on Monday, PM Modi said that he was ready to elevate the bilateral partnership and to connect with Mauritius leadership during his visit to strengthen friendship for safety and development in the Indian Ocean region.

He called Mauritius a “close maritime neighboring, the lead partner in the Indian Ocean and the gateway to the African continent”.

“My friend, at the invitation of Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgulam, I am going on a two -day state trip to Mauritius to attend the 57th National Day celebrations of Mauritius. We are associated with history, geography and culture. Deep Mutual Trust, a shared belief in our diversity values,” He said.

He said, “Close and historical people-to-people are a source of pride connected. We have made significant progress in the last ten years with people-centered initiatives,” he said.

He expressed confidence that this journey would be built on the foundation of the past and would open a new and bright chapter in India-Marshaus.

He said, “I look forward to the opportunity to enhance our partnership in all our aspects and to strengthen our permanent friendship for the progress and prosperity of our people, as well as for safety and development in the Indian Ocean region, as part of our Vision Sea,” he said.
PM Modi is traveling to Mauritius at the invitation of his Mauritius counterpart, Navinchandra Ramgulam. He will participate in Mauritius’ National Day celebrations as the chief guest on 12 March. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) press release, a contingent of the Indian defense forces and a ship of the Indian Navy will participate in the ceremonies. PM Modi last visited Mauritius in 2015.
During his visit, PM Modi will call the President of Mauritius, and the Prime Minister and will hold meetings with senior dignitaries and leaders of political parties in Mauritius.

According to the MEA press release, he will also hold talks with members of the Indian-Oro community and inaugurate the Civil Services College and Area Health Center, both will be built with India’s grant assistance. Many memorandum (MUS) will be exchanged during the journey.
“India and Mauritius share a close and special relationship for people shared historical, cultural and people. In addition, Mauritius makes an important part of the Vision Sea of ​​India, that is, safety and development for all in the region,” read the Mea statement.

“The journey will confirm a strong and permanent bond between India and Mauritius and strengthen the shared commitment of the two countries to increase bilateral relations in all regions,” he said.
Earlier, Anurag Srivastava, the Indian High Commissioner of Mauritius, called the relationship between the two countries “really special” and expressed that they expect an agreement in the areas of marine security and capacity building.
“This is actually a special relationship and the relationship has matured in a very strong, strong and versatile partnership. This partnership spreads areas such as maritime security cooperation, development participation, capacity building, health and various other areas,” Srivastava told ANI.
He said, “In meetings between the two Prime Ministers, we guess that there will be very important agreements and announcements after these meetings. It is expected that there will be agreements in marine security areas, so that marine safety partnership can be carried forward, as well as in areas such as capacity building and others.”
