The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has launched its pilot phase, offering more than 1.25 lakh internship opportunities to youths between the ages of 21-24 years across India. Intern from 656 districts has started its placements in top companies in 34 states and center areas.
Under this scheme, each intern will receive a monthly allowance of 5,000 for 12 months, as well as a grant of ₹ 6,000 through direct benefits transfer (DBT). The aim of the government is to increase youth employment and take advantage of India’s demographic dividend through this initiative.
The intern is placed in various fields including finance, manufacturing and energy. Companies such as Vedanta, ONGC, Titan, and Maruti Suzuki are providing hands -on hands training at places from Jammu to Kanyakumari and Andaman Islands.
Companies are providing overall assistance to ensure a smooth transition to intern. ONGC and Emcure provide housing, while Maruti Suzuki and Alchem Labs have designed induction and technical training programs. Transport and health insurance is also being facilitated by many firms.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs appreciated the enthusiasm from both companies and intern, which emphasized the role of the plan in promoting inclusive growth and skill development. With more than 6.2 lakh applications, the selection process for additional candidates continues.
PMI is expected to be a step stone for thousands of young Indians, which bridges the gap between education and employment.
