Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications, on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Purvodaya’ vision for the region will be the gateway to India’s progress.
Scindia, who reached Guwahati as part of his first two-day visit to Assam and Meghalaya as DoNER Minister, said that the North-Eastern region is a storehouse of culture, tradition, abundance of resources and that storehouse should be displayed before the world.
âDuring the last ten years of the NDA government there was tremendous social development as well as progress in health, education, sports, tourism and industry. The region has vast resources of bamboo, agar wood and many other natural resources which have tremendous development potential,â the minister told the media at Guwahati airport.
Referring to the civil aviation department he held during the previous tenure, Scindia said the number of airports in the region has increased from 9 to 17.
âAlthough this is my first visit as DoNER Minister, I have very old and strong relations with the sector. I would like to thank the PM, our party president (JP Nadda) and our Home Minister (Amit Shah) for giving me this responsibility.
âIt will be my resolve to see that the PM’s vision of ‘Purvodaya’ turns into reality to make this region a gateway to India’s progress. This approach in terms of huge outlay increase for the Northeast has been on the right track for the last 10 years,â he said.
He said that from the infrastructure point of view, be it roads, rail or civil aviation, the budgetary outlay for the North-Eastern region has been increased from Rs 24,000 crore to about Rs 82,000 crore.
“Our ‘Look East Policy’ is now ‘Act East Policy’ and the North-Eastern region will be a pivot in that policy going forward…” the DoNER minister said, adding that it would be instrumental in meeting the aspirations of each state. Will work. Of North Eastern region.
Doner minister later left for Shillong where he will hold a series of meetings with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and senior officials on various issues of development and schemes.
In Shillong, Scindia will chair a review meeting with officials of the DoNER Ministry, NEC and state governments of the region at the North Eastern Council Secretariat to assess the progress of various regional projects and initiatives.
‘NEC Vision 2047’ will be presented in the meeting and NERACE app will be launched.
The NERACE app serves as an integrated digital platform designed to connect farmers to global markets, facilitating direct transactions and price negotiations.
It includes a multilingual helpline (English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Nepali, Khasi, Mizo and Manipuri) and integrates farmers and vendors, increasing agricultural connectivity across Northeast India.
