The Karnataka government has initiated an investigation into the alleged misuse of the protocol privileges of the VIP airport by actress Ranya Rao, who was recently arrested in a gold smuggling case. Investigation In Karnataka, an IPS officer and Director General of Police Dr. K Ramchandra Rao, Dr. K will also investigate any possible role played by Ramchandra Rao.
Ranya Rao was arrested by the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) for allegedly smuggling Rs 12 crore from Dubai to Bengaluru. He allegedly used the privileges of the VIP airport, for senior officials, to bypass security checks and facilitate the operation of their smuggling.
Ms. Rao allegedly used her father’s name and status to achieve unauthorized access to the facilities of banned airport as managing director of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation. The Karnataka government has issued an order to investigate the circumstances under which the protocol privileges were extended to Ranya Rao and whether his father had any participation in the case.
The state government has appointed Gaurav Gupta, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Investigating Officer. The investigation has been ordered to start immediately, expecting a final report within a week.
The gold smuggling case has launched a political debate in Karnataka, in which the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP have accused each other of doing wrong things. The BJP has alleged that the Congress played a role in protecting Ms. Rao from investigation. In turn, the Congress has accused the BJP of giving land to the actress -linked company under suspicious circumstances.
Vijayendra said on social media to criticize the government by BJP Karnataka, said, said,
“In recent times, there was no surprise in the media report about the participation of a prominent minister in @Siddaramaiah’s government in recent times – especially the track records of this government were given a track record of chopping scams by rapidly ‘innovative’ methods!”
He further alleged that the government protocol could not be misused without high level political support for gold smuggling worth more than Rs 12 crore. Mr. Vijayendra warned that any attempt to mold those responsible people, especially with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), would be stepped into.
State Home Minister Ji Parmeshwar said that investigation was going on and the government would not intervene until the conclusions were clear.
“We cannot say anything until the investigation is over. Neither I nor the government can give any such response,” he said.
Karnataka Minister MB Patil fought the BJP’s allegations stating that during the previous BJP -led administration, 12 acres of land was allotted to a company associated with Ranya Rao.
