Around 2,000 additional seats have been added to adjust the increasing number of students eager to pursue medical courses in Russian universities, on Wednesday, the Consale General Valerie Khodzhev of Mahavanaram of the Russian Federation in Chennai said.
Russia remains the top option for Indian students seeking medical education abroad, and Russian universities have a long reputation to provide high quality medical education worldwide, they said at a program here.
He said that with the increase in medical courses every year in the number of Indian students, Russia has increased the number of seats in 2024 by 8,000.
The increase in seats reflects the increasing demand for medical education in Russia, the only foreign countries that are currently complying with the latest criteria of the National Medical Commission for foreign medical education.
“Students of India have been admitted to Russian universities for the last 60 years. Russia remains the top option for Indian students seeking medical education abroad. Russian House Vice Consultant and Director Alexander Dodonov said, “Like the past, the annual 100 percent scholarship program of the Russian government will provide grants to 200 Indian students this year. An All India Russian education fair for the educational year 2025-26 is going to be held in the Russian center of science and culture in the city on 10 and 11 May.
