“Some threatening governments emphasize talks”: Khameni after Trump’s danger

Tehran:

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday described US President Donald Trump as a day threatening a day after threatening military action against Iran.

“Some threatened governments – I really do not know any more suitable word than the word bullying for some foreign figures and leaders – emphasizing the talks,” Khameni told the authorities that Trump had threatened military action if Iran refused to engage in a conversation in his nuclear program.

“Their interaction is not aimed at solving problems, they aim of domination,” Khamenei said.

On Friday, Trump said he wrote to the supreme leader of Iran, urging or refusing a new dialogue on the country’s nuclear program, faces possible military action.

Khamenei said on Saturday that the purpose of bullying powers is to emphasize their expectations.

“They are establishing new expectations they feel that certainly will not meet Iran,” he said, without renaming the United States or without mentioning Trump’s letter.

On Friday, External Affairs Minister Abbas Argchi told AFP in an interview that Tehran would not talk under “maximum pressure”, although he did not directly address Trump’s letter.

Trump restored his policy with his first term of maximum pressure on Iran when returned to the White House in January.

Under this policy, in 2018, the United States has formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA) from the Iran Nuclear Agreement.

In 2015, JCPOA, set between Tehran and Western powers, offered relief from economic sanctions in exchange for limits on Iran’s nuclear activities.

Tehran has been engaged in diplomatic efforts with three European countries – Britain, France and Germany in recent months, which aims to solve issues around its atomic ambitions.

However, on Saturday, Khameni also slammed three European countries “announced that Iran has not met its nuclear commitments under the JCPOA”.

“You say Iran has not met its commitments under JCPOA. Well, have you met your commitments under JCPOA?” He replied.

Peaceful nature

Khamenei said that Tehran had followed his commitments for a year, but “there was no other way” but to roll back from them under this deal after the law by the country’s Parliament.

US officials now speculated that Iran chose to do so if Iran could produce an nuclear weapon within weeks.

Tehran has continuously denied chasing nuclear weapons, emphasizing the peaceful nature of his nuclear program.

Officials have always cited a religious decree released by Khameni that prevents the development of such weapons.

Last month, Khamenei reiterated his opposition to interaction with the United States, calling this “mindless” just a few days after Trump called for a new nuclear deal.

Khamenei accused Washington of “ruin, violation and tearing” the 2015 agreement.

In 2019, a year after Trump’s return from JCPOA, the then Premier Shinzo Abe visited Iran in an attempt to mediate between Tehran and Washington.

But Khamenei strongly rejected the possibility of interaction with the United States, saying that he “did not consider Trump as a person worthy of exchange of messages”.
