The people of Delhi will soon be able to enjoy the boat ride as the Delhi government and the Center on Tuesday signed an MoU to develop water tourism on the 4 km Sonia Vihar-Jagatpur stretch of Yamuna.
Speaking at the event at Asita Park, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that in the coming days, the convenience will be expanded, a step that will reduce the city roads and also provide better travel options for the residents of the city.
This is a major step towards integrating river, road and metro transport. VK Saxena said that the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model will also be detected to expand the facility in Yamuna.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the initiative will give Delhi a fresh and modern identity, which will focus on cleanliness, beautification and development.
The previous government created several obstacles, but the people of Delhi rejected them, paving the way for progress, said that the environmentally friendly electric-vaul-hybrid hybrid hibrid boats would be introduced to promote a permanent journey.
Ms. Gupta said that she has imagined the Yamuna Ghats developing in a cultural and artistic hub similar to Varanasi, and said that the government was committed to maintaining Yamuna cleaning efforts and daily development work.
He also thanked all the departments, saying that this change would not be possible without his commitment.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are making impossible possible,” he said that expressing gratitude to all the officials involved in it.
LG said that charging stations and other facilities will also be developed to increase experience for passengers in Delhi.
“This is just the beginning. In the coming days, the service will be expanded, the situation of the Yamuna will be significantly improved, and the waterways of Delhi will be further developed,” he said.
VK Saxena called it a “historic day” for the city, which emphasizes the government’s commitment for environmental protection and development of waterways.
“PM Modi’s vision focuses on strengthening the country’s water transport network, and we are taking concrete steps to restore Delhi’s ecological balance,” he said.
Accepting the delay of the past in cleaning the Yamuna, he said that earlier it was being considered as a drain.
VK Saxena assured that progress has increased since the new government took charge and said that significant progress in adopting solar energy and permanent transport solutions have been made.
The government also announced a plan to improve public transport, reduce traffic congestion and promote local businesses.
LG said, “This is just the beginning. More development is in the way, and we will work with private players and work to increase the system.”
Despite the previous challenges, the administration is committed to cleaning the pending projects and accelerating the progress, he said.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, PWD Minister Pravesh Verma and Delhi’s Capital Minister were also present at the event.
