The rotation of a regular crew at the International Space Station has taken on unusual importance: it finally paves the way for a pair of astronauts trapped for more than nine months to come home.
The NASA -SpasX Crew -10 mission has been designed to launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 7:48 pm on Wednesday (2348 GMT). The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket takes a crew dragon capsules on the scientific campaign of the orbital lab with a four-member team.
Although everyone’s eyes will be on Astronauts Buch Wilmor and Sun. Williams, who have boarded the ISS since June, as their Boeing Starelineer spacecraft developed propulsion issues and was considered unqualified for their return.
The pair, slated for an eight -day mission initially, was re -appointed in a spacex dragon in September after Crew -9 was re -appointed. The spacecraft took only two crew members instead of normal to make a place for Wilmore and Williams. The crew will remain in crew -9 grade till 10 arrives.
Wilmore recently said at a news conference, “We were ready to stay for a long time, even though we were planning to stay less.” “This is about your country’s human space flight program, planning for unknown, unexpected contingencies.”
Crew -10 is expected to do a dock in the early hours of Thursday, followed by a brief handover before crew -9, which allows the weather to splash an ocean away from Florida coast on 16 March. Along with Wilmore and Williams, NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian Cosmonot Alexandra Gorbunov will also board the Returning Dragon capsules.
Wilmor and Williams’s long stay has recently become a political flashpoint, as President Donald Trump and his close advisor Elon Musk have accused former President Joe Biden’s administration of leaving the pair.
SpaceX Boss Musk has suggested, without providing nuances, that he offered a “rescue” mission to biden outside routine crew rotation.
However, now in the office for about two months with Trump, the astronauts are still ready to return to the plan as the plan.
The issue recently provoked a warm online exchange between Musk and Danish astronaut Andreas Mogensen, which Musk called “completely dim” by Musk. Retired astronauts Scott and Mark Kelly and Chris Headfield defended Mogenson.

The Crew -10 team consists of NASA astronaut Anne McClen and Nicole Aars, Japan’s Takua Onishi and Russia’s Kiril Peskov.
During their mission, they will conduct many scientific experiments including flammability tests for future spacecraft design and research in the effects of space on the human body.
