With the arrival of this car company in India, many established electric car companies are likely to face a strong challenge.

Electric Car In India: There is going to be a big explosion in the electric car sector in India. Due to this, the domestic car companies Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra are in trouble. If this happens, the car market of the country will completely change in the coming times. The cars of this company are economical as well as have a range of up to 1000 km. In such a situation, everyone’s eyes are on the latest announcement of this company.

Actually, we are talking about China’s most famous electric car company BYD. BYD has said that it is interested in starting manufacturing operations in India. If all the conditions are suitable for this, he will set up the manufacturing unit. This plan of the company is under constant evaluation, said Rajiv Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles (EPV) Business of BYD India.

Despite political tensions between China and India and visa related problems, the company has not seen any impact on its operations in India. Chauhan said that the company has received positive response from Indian customers. Indian customers are very practical. During the Bharat Mobility Global Expo under Auto Expo-2025, he said that the company has introduced premium electric SUV SEALION 7. Now he is considering getting government approval for more models in India.

Trying to get government approval
Chauhan said that our plans and manufacturing plans are being constantly evaluated. We are keen on this and will implement it as soon as all circumstances are favourable. BYD planned to set up an EV and battery manufacturing plant in India in the year 2023, but the Indian government did not approve this investment proposal. Chauhan said that at present the company does not have any manufacturing contract in India. It cannot be said yet when the company will start manufacturing operations in India.

When Chauhan was asked whether the visa restrictions imposed by India on Chinese citizens had any impact on the company’s operations, he said, “I do not think so.” We are sitting in India and Indian people are working here. Chouhan also said that recently there has been some relaxation in visa restrictions for technical experts from China, due to which he is hopeful that the visa issue can be resolved.

He also said that Indian customers are very practical. He believes that Indian customers choose their vehicle on the basis of performance and reliability and not just because the vehicle is from a Chinese company. BYD India sold around 3,500 units in 2024 and the company aims to do better than this for 2025. For this, the company will make four models available in the Indian market.

With the introduction of SEALION 7, the company already has models like Atto 3, SEAL and eMAX 7 available. Chauhan said that efforts are going on to get approval from the Government of India for Atto 3. This removes the limit on completely built vehicles (CBUs). eMAX 7 is also in the process of getting government approval.
