Patna:
An investigation into the allegations that a beggar was involved in theft from several houses in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, inspired the police to a shocking discovery. A raid on the beggar’s house caused a recovery of Rs 1 lakh from several countries, 12 mobile phones and silver coins, including a dating for the British Raj.
Rural SP Vidya Sagar said that the residents of the area told them that the woman, Neelam Devi, was a beggar who would go door-to-door in the residential neighborhood. Late, he also started selling mosquito nets. He said, “We have found that the real intention behind begging was to identify the goals. She would operate the rake and her son -in -law would steal in the target house at night,” he said.
While Neelam Devi has been arrested, her son -in -law, Chutuk Lal, is on run and the police is looking for her. Police said that Neelam Devi had said that all the recovered items belonged to her son -in -law. Police suspect that the KTM bike seized from his house was used in theft.
The recovered goods are 12 mobile phones of various brands, coins from Nepal, Afghanistan and Kuwait, a gold chain and other gold jewelry and KTM bikes.
“The woman’s son -in -law is on the run and her arrest will take us to the rest of the gang. We are investigating how foreign coins reached her house. The woman has been sent to jail,” said Mr. Sagar.
