Brussels:
The European Union on Sunday exploded the widespread tariff of US President Donald Trump over Canada, Mexico and China, and said that if 27-nation blocks were targeted, “firmly” would return when targeted.
Brussels had so far indicated that it hopes to avoid trade conflict with Trump through conversation.
But on Friday, the US leader doubled, saying he planned to target the European Union in the future, as he slapped his North American neighbors and China.
A spokesman for the European Commission said, “The European Union regrets the US decision to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China.”
“Tariffs create unnecessary economic disruption and run inflation. They are sad for all sides.”
The spokesperson said “the European Union will strongly respond to any business partner who incorrectly or arbitrarily imposes tariffs on European Union goods”.
“At this time, we don’t know about any additional tariffs being planted on the products of the European Union,” he said.
He said that the 27-Nation European Union was committed to low tariffs as “a strong, rules-based development within a strong, rule-based trading system”.
And he reiterated the European Union commitment to his trade and investment relations with the United States – “the largest in the world”.
“There is a lot at stake,” the spokesperson said. “We should both look to strengthen this relationship.”
