These fake notices are designed to look like a real GST summons, but have fraudulent din numbers, which makes them look authentic. CBIC urged taxpayers to be vigilant and did not respond to such notices without proper verification.

To verify the validity of GST notice, taxpayers can follow these steps:

  1. Go to CBIC website: Go to the official CBIC website.
  2. Use “Verify CBIC-DIN” tool: Find the ‘verified CBIC-DIN’ option on the website.
  3. Enter din number: Input the DIN number mentioned in the notice.
  4. Complete captcha: Fill the captcha code to verify your request.
  5. Present for verification: Click ‘Submit’ to confirm the validity of the notice.

If the DIN number does not match any official record, the possibility of notice is fraud. In such cases, taxpayers have been advised to immediately inform the concerned tax authorities or the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI). This will enable the authorities to take rapid action against individuals behind the scam and prevent further fraud activities.

Taxpayers have also been urged to be vigilant and verify any GST-related communication before taking any action.
