According to a report by The Economic Times, several immigration lawyers have expressed concern that the decision can directly affect H -1B visa holders, international students and green card applicants on F -1 visa, many of which are Indians.
According to immigration lawyers, it will limit closed transparency and accountability
US citizenship and immigration service (USCIS).
Talking with TOI, Senior Director, Sharavari Dalal-Dhani, for government relations in the American Immigration Lawyer Association (AILA), said, “Individuals or businesses sought assistance from Sis Ombudsman for various issues, which are to denue Green Cards and even types of typographic errors.
Dalal-Sadhini highlighted that the Lokpal’s office also benefited the employees by addressing the employment documents filed by their international employees or addressing the missing employment documents.
The American Immigration Lawyer Association (AILA) stated that the Lokpal’s office handled around 30,000 requests in 2024, helping delays, involvement and application controversies.
According to an immigration attorney Rajiv S Khanna in Arlington, the visa holders often turned into a Lokpal when their legal status was at risk due to administrative delay. He said, “F -1 and H -1B visa holders turned to CIS Ombdsman, when they hit bureaucratic obstacles within the US citizenship and immigration services (USCIS), which endangered their legal status and livelihood,” he said.
CIS Ombudsman serves as a contact between the public and the United States citizenship and immigration services (USCIS).
The office helps people and employers to handle concerns with USCIS, as well as busy listening to the public about their experiences.
Additionally, it identifies problems in the immigration system and provides recommendations to USCIS to address them.
