Gus Atkinson has become the 8th England bowler to take 10 or more wickets in his debut Test match. He has reached fourth position in terms of best bowling figures in the debut test match. He bowled 26 overs, spent a total of 106 runs and took 12 wickets. He is still only 26 years old and he got a chance to make his Test debut in James Anderson’s last match. He fully capitalized on the opportunity and performed brilliantly. Now Anderson has taken retirement. In such a situation, Gus Atkinson’s place in England’s playing eleven for the next few matches is almost confirmed. He has taken 11 wickets in 9 ODI matches and 6 wickets in 3 T20I matches for England.

In the first Test match against West Indies, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved to be correct. West Indies scored 121 runs in the first innings. After this, England scored 371 runs in the first innings and thus gained a lead of 250 runs. Then the West Indies batsmen could not stand in front of Gus Atkinson in the second innings and could score 136 runs.
