Ketaki flower:According to mythological beliefs, Ketaki flower had supported Lord Brahma in his lie, due to which Bholenath got angry and cursed the Ketaki flower that Ketaki flower would never be offered on Shivalinga. Therefore, offering Ketaki flower on Shivalinga is prohibited.
Turmeric :According to the scriptures, Shivalinga is a symbol of the male element and turmeric is a female element. Therefore turmeric is not offered on Shivalinga.
Vermilion : It is considered inauspicious for married women to offer vermilion, the symbol of their marriage, to Lord Shiva. Mahadev likes ashes and does not like beauty at all. Among the adornment items, only perfume is offered to Lord Shiva.
black mole : While performing Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva, one should not offer raw milk or water mixed with sesame seeds. It is believed that the mole was born from the union of Lord Vishnu. That is why black sesame is not offered on Shivalinga.
Water from conch: Lord Vishnu should not be anointed with a conch. It is said that Lord Bholenath had killed the demon named Shankhchud. This demon was born from a conch. Therefore, Jalabhishek is not done with conch on Shivalinga.
