Washington:
President Donald Trump on Friday created a ruckus against the eco-friendly paper straw promoted by his predecessor Joe Biden, and promised that the United States would return to use plastic.
“I will sign an executive order next week, which is finishing the ridiculous biden push for paper straw, which does not work. Back to plastic!” Trump said on social media.
Democrat Biden announced a target to eliminate single-use plastic utensils such as drinking straws in government departments by 2035.
Trump’s move is the latest on environmental issues by the Republican President, who took out the Paris Climate Change Agreement soon after its inauguration and promised to “drill, baby, drill” for oil.
The growing trend for a straw of paper has troubled Trump for a long time.
“They want to ban the straw. Has anyone tried to straw them? They are not doing very good work,” he said during an expedition rally in the 2020 election against Biden.
“As you drink it, it disintegrates, and if you have a good tie like this tie, you have not found any option.”
Trump’s campaign team has also sold branded plastic straws with Slogan: “Liberal paper straws do not work.”
