Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has extended the deadline for activating the Universal Account Number (UAN) and linking bank accounts with Aadhaar.

The new time limit is February 15, 2025.

EPFO’s employment linked incentive (ELI) scheme is mandatory for employees to get benefits under the scheme.

The Ministry of Labor and Employment confirmed this expansion on 2 February 2025 in a circular date.

Why UAN activation is important

A universal account number (UAN) is a 12-conductive unique ID entrusted to employees by EPFO.

Activating UAN allows employees:

  • Take back EPF Fund online
  • Check EPF balance
  • Update contact details

What is Ellie Plan?

Employment linked incentive (ELI) scheme promotes formal sector jobs. This ensures direct benefits transfer (DBT) for bank accounts associated with Aadhaar of employees.

To get benefits, employees must have:

  • An active UAN
  • A base-seed bank account

How to activate UAN online?

Employees can activate their UAN online in minutes. follow these steps:

  • EPFO member visit the Seva portal.
  • Click on ‘Active UAN’ under ‘important link’.
  • Enter UAN, Aadhaar number, date of birth and base-linked mobile number.
  • Aadhaar OTP agrees to verification and request an authority pin.
  • Enter OTP received on your registered mobile number.
  • Once verified, the UAN activation was completed.

EPFO members should activate their UAN and add their bank accounts with the base before February 15, 2025. Failing to do so can delay the benefits of EPF withdrawal and ELI scheme.
