Amritsar:
An American military aircraft carrying around 200 illegal Indian immigrants is expected to land at Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport here on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier, the aircraft was expected to land in the morning. So far, details of those people are not available on the aircraft.
According to reports, American military aircraft C-17 is carrying 205 illegal migrants from Punjab and neighboring states.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday that the state government will receive immigrants and set up counters at the airport.
Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Tuesday expressed disappointment over the decision of the US government and said that these persons who had contributed to the economy of that country should have been given permanent residence instead of being deported.
He said that many Indians entered the US work permits, which later ended, causing them to become illegal immigrants.
The minister said that he is planning to meet Foreign Minister S Jaishankar next week to discuss the concerns and interests of the Punjabis living in the US.
Dhaliwal appealed to the Punjabis not to travel abroad through illegal means, emphasizing the importance of getting skills and education to reach opportunities around the world.
He encouraged people to research legal methods, to gain education and language skills before traveling abroad.
After Donald Trump assumed a position as an US President last month, the country’s law enforcement agencies have launched a rift against illegal migrants.
Many people of Punjab, who spent millions of rupees and entered the US through “donkey route” or other illegal means, are now facing exile.
