New York, 21 February, 2025 – This week WCS asked the World Health Organization (WHO) member states (WHOs) to adopt legally prevention, preparations and response agreement, including a strong and ambitious attention to stop the epidemic at the source. .
Negotiations for the agreement continue, with the final negotiations, the WHO took place on 7–11 April in Geneva. If governments can reach consensus, the agreement will be adopted in the World Health Assembly at WHO headquarters in May. The WCS continues to offer its scientific and technical expertise, in the hope that the governments will agree on a strong agreement that will help prevent the pandemon of the pathogen spillover and the future zoonotic origin of the future.
The WCS has provided scientific and technical information and recommendations to the governments in a three-year conversation that began as the result of the Covid-19 epidemic. The WCS is the only large field-based international protection organization that intervened this week and followed the conversation from the beginning.
WCS Vice President for International Policy, Dr. Susan Liberman on Thursday addressed the governments during a conversation on two important articles of the biggest concern for the governments for WCS, which is a hardcore 4 on the prevention of epidemic, and Article 5 on a health approach:
“The Wildlife Conservation Society WHO appreciates time, effort and consideration in developing the latest proposal for the epidemic agreement. We appreciate the steps taken to integrate the prevention of a health and pathogen spillover in the lesson and are usually satisfied with the current lesson of articles 4 and 5, because the best way to reach unanimous is, although although although although We must have preferred strong texts on prevention.
“WCS is the only major international conservation organization with an embedded wildlife health program that works on land close to 60 countries, largely in the global south. We are an active, respected partner and scientific and technical resources, where we work, in the ground/region, and the member states, INB (Intergiversalmeal Dialogue Body), and continue to provide our assistance to the WHO Secretariat.
“The next epidemic will most likely be a zoonotic origin and wildlife source, and we would have more emphasis on commitments for primary prevention in the text and especially to address the pathogen spillover at the source in articles 4 and 5. Human-Sududhan-Environment-Wliflefe interfaces, practices and policies in the interface, as we see frequently in living wildlife trade and wildlife markets in urban centers, run novel pathogens’ development and emergence. Many-mazes may not succeed with a traditional public health reaction to deal with outbreaks. Only a system-based trans-disciplinary approach that bridles human-pensus and environmental health areas can improve health results for all.
“We urge you to strictly protect and strengthen the proposed text, especially the draft has been prepared in articles 4 and 5., There is no longer time to go back in this changing world of withdrawal from global commitments and responsibilities. Infectious diseases do not know any limit. Their dissemination underlines the important requirement of a strong, reliable and committed associate network to prevent spillover, quickly detects the dangers and responds effectively. We urge WHO and its member states to work rapidly to ensure that the agreement includes provisions that actually the pathogen spillover, epidemic, epidemic and the risk of diseases in the human-verse-environment interface Will reduce
“We ask you to give you an international, legally binding agreement, including a strong and ambitious attention on the prevention on the source to achieve the global general good of health for all. The time is shorter, and we hope that future generations can see back with praise of this time and do not regret the road taken on the road. ,
