We cannot give instructions to make law… Why did Justice Khanna have to say this?

New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a petition filed to stop violence against doctors, saying there are already laws in place to deal with the issue. Along with this, the top court refused to consider the petition seeking instructions to stop the incidents of violence against doctors.

However, the Court clarified that the petitioners are free to approach the concerned courts in respect of specific cases of violence. Actually, the Supreme Court was hearing the writ petition filed by Delhi Medical Association (DMA).

Senior advocate Vijay Hansaria, appearing for the petitioner, said that incidents of violence against doctors are happening again and again. To which, Justice Khanna said that laws already exist to resolve this issue.

Hearing the case, Justice Khanna said, “I recently went to the hospital. I saw placards there on which it was written that violence against doctors is a serious crime.” On this, senior lawyer Vijay Hansaria said that this was so that solutions could be found to overcome the problem. Responding to the lawyer, Justice Khanna said that we cannot give instructions to make a law.
