New Delhi. The contract of coach Rahul Dravid, who made the Indian team champion in the ICC T20 World Cup, ended with this tournament. It was also made clear from his side that he is no longer interested in extending his tenure. BCCI announced on Tuesday, July 9 that Gautam Gambhir will be the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. Now this question will definitely be in everyone’s mind whether the salary of this stalwart replacing Dravid will be more or less than him.
On Tuesday, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah officially announced Gambhir’s appointment, which was long anticipated. However, it is learned that his salary is yet to be decided, though it is expected to be similar to that of his predecessors Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri. According to a report, former Indian team coach Rahul Dravid used to get an annual salary of around Rs 12 crore from BCCI. It is being told that Gambhir has also been offered the same amount.
Gambhir’s salary will be equal to Dravid
“It was more important for Gautam to handle the responsibility, salaries and other things can be worked out,” a BCCI source told PTI. This is a similar case like that of Ravi Shastri in 2014 in which he was made the Director of Cricket for the first time in place of head coach Duncan Fletcher. The day Ravi joined, he did not even have a contract and things were completed later. In Gautam’s case too, work is going on on some details. His salary will be the same as that of Rahul Dravid.
