Gyanesh Kumar – was appointed as an Election Commissioner in March last year – India is likely to become the next Chief Election Commissioner, NDTV said on Monday evening replacing outgoing Rajiv Kumar sources. If his appointment is confirmed, Mr. Kumar will oversee elections later this year in Bihar assembly elections and next year in Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu.
The 1988-batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, Mr. Kumar, is senior to two commissioners on a three-member panel, led by Rajiv Kumar, until he demonstrated the office this morning. The other commissioner of the panel is Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, an officer of Uttarakhand cadre.
However, Mr. Kumar’s nomination has not been confirmed yet.

61 year old Mr. Kumar was First part of Union Ministry of Home Affairs,

He was then Joint Secretary (Kashmir Division) in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
A year later, as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Kumar also handled documents related to the Supreme Court case about the Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
Sources said that Mr. Kumar is known close to Home Minister Amit Shah; He retired from civil service in January last year, as Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation, which was also led by Mr. Shah.
