10 family members of Masood Azhar died in India’s air strike in Bahawalpur
Bahawalpur was one of the nine terrorist goals of last night
Azhar has been nominated as an international terrorist by the United Nations Security Council
News agency PTI said that an overnight strike in Bahawalpur, Pakistan killed 10 members of Jai-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar’s family. Four of his colleagues were also killed in the strike, claiming in a statement that India killed terrorist camps across control and border.
Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah was one of the nine terrorist goals last night in Bahawalpur. Other goals included at least three places in Pakistan and five more in Poke.
Those who were killed in the Bahwalpur strike were Azhar’s elder sister, her husband, a nephew, his wife, a niece and five children of the expanded family, said in a statement that the water has been given to the terrorist.
Azhar said that he has no regrets or disappointment on deaths. Instead, the statement said, he wished to die with his family members.
Who is Masood Azhar?
56-year-old Masood Azhar is the founder of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed Terror Group, who has carried out several terrorist attacks in India, including the 2016 Pathankot airbase attacks and 2019 Pulwama attacks. He has also been involved in the 2001 Parliament attack and the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
In 2016, he took into consideration an attack on the Indian Consulate at Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan.
Azhar has also been nominated as an international terrorist by the United Nations Security Council.
Wanted terrorists were once in custody of Indian agencies, but were released after Air India IC814 kidnapping. The aircraft was kidnapped by five armed terrorists in December 1999, while flying from Kathmandu to Delhi, and bend in Kandahar via Amritsar, Lahore and Dubai in Afghanistan. India had to release Azhar and two other terrorists in exchange for hostages.
Islamabad has repeatedly rejected Azhar’s presence, as it is an open secret that it is in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was asked at a summit in Uzbekistan in 2022 whether he would take action against the terrorist nominated by the United Nations. He did not reply.
The same year, when India and the United States tried to ban Azhar’s brother Abdul Rauf Asghar, the second-in-command in Gem, China had a technical hold, saying that the time needs time to study the move.
Last November, Azhar gave a public speech in an Islamic madrasa in Pakistan’s Punjab province, in which he allegedly vowed to continue attacks on India. In his speech, he also announced that Gem would carry forward attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
In December, India demanded Pakistan against Azhar and Jem, stating that if the terrorist’s speech was true, it “exposed Pakistan’s copy” in acting against terrorists working from the soil of Pakistan.
Last year, social media posts – apparently by Pakistani users – Azhar’s death in the bomb blast went viral, but the claims were later found to be false.
