After taking bath, wear clean clothes. Worship all the Gods and Goddesses including Shiva family duly. If you want to keep a fast, then take a pledge to keep the fast with holy water, flowers and Akshat in your hand. Then in the evening, light a lamp in the home temple at dusk.
