Dussehra 2024: In Hindu religion, Dussehra i.e. Vijayadashami is celebrated on the tenth day of Ashwin month. Dussehra is considered a symbol of righteousness over unrighteousness and good over evil. When is Dussehra? According to Drik Panchang, Dashami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month will start on October 12 at 10.58 am and will end on October 13 at 9.08 am. In such a situation, Dussehra will be celebrated on 12 October 2024.
Why is it auspicious to see Neelkanth bird on Dussehra?
There is a religious belief that after seeing the Neelkanth bird on the day of Dussehra, Lord Sriran got victory over Ravana. The tradition of seeing the Neelkanth bird has been going on for years on this festival of victory of goodness. It is also said that when Lord Shri Ram came after killing Ravana, he was accused of the sin of killing a Brahmin. To repent for his sins, he along with Lakshman worshiped Lord Bholenath. Due to which Lord Shiva was pleased and appeared to Lord Ram and Lakshman in the form of Neelkanth bird. Therefore, seeing the Neelkanth bird on the holy occasion of Dussehra is considered auspicious.
