Ban on auspicious works
Chaturmas will start from 17th July. This yoga is being formed
Auspicious yoga is being formed till 7.05 am on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi. After this Shukla Yoga will be formed. It will end at 6:13 am on July 18. There will also be Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga on Dev Shayani Ekadashi. Their being together is considered auspicious for meditation and fasting.
what is chaturmas
According to Bhagwat Purana, Lord Vishnu took Vaman incarnation to restore the kingdom of heaven to Indra. Bali, the king of demons, gained control over all three worlds. Then Lord Vaman approached King Bali and asked for a donation of three steps of land. The king accepted. Then Lord Vaman measured the entire earth, sky and directions in one step. In the second step I measured heaven. Then he asked Bali where he should take the third step, then King Bali moved his head forward. God was pleased to see the generosity of the sacrifice. He asked Bali to ask for a boon. The king said, stay with me in my palace and give me the opportunity to serve you. But Goddess Lakshmi got disturbed by this promise. He asked Bali to free Lord Vishnu from his promise by making him his brother. Then Lord Vishnu said that he will rest in the underworld for these four months. This is called Chaturmas.

Chaturmas is starting from Dev Shayani Ekadashi on 17th July. There will be a ban on auspicious works from this day. But apart from that, there is Sahalag on 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th of July. The one who misses marriage will have to wait for four months. That is why people have booked banquet halls, wedding halls, bands, DJs, confectioners etc. two to three months in advance.
