Sarva Pitru Amavasya 2024: Sarvapitri Amavasya is considered to be the last day of Shraddha Paksha. On this day, Shraddha can be performed for those ancestors whose date of death is not known. Apart from this, Shraddha and Tarpan rituals are performed on this day for the peace of the souls of those who died an unknown and untimely death. According to Drik Panchang, this year 02 October is Sarvapitri Amavasya. On this day, Shraddha is performed for all the ancestors. It is known as Amavasya Shraddha or Sarvaprit Moksha Amavasya. Tarpan : On the day of Sarvapitri Amavasya, ancestors should be offered tarpan by adding black sesame, kusha, barley and white flowers in water. It is believed that by doing this the ancestors are pleased.

The offering of libations of water to the gods : Make sure to do Tarpan and Pind Daan on the day of Sarvapitri Amavasya. For this, make a ball by mixing rice, cow’s milk, ghee, jaggery and honey and after offering it to the ancestors, float it in water.

Recite Geeta: Reciting Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta during Shraddha Paksha is considered very auspicious. It is believed that by reading or listening to Shrimad Bhagwat Katha during Shraddha Paksha, ancestors get salvation. Be sure to recite Geeta on the day of Sarvapitri Amavasya.

Panchabali Karma: Brahmin food and Panchbali ritual have great importance in Shraddha. In Panchabali, food is kept for five different people. On the day of Sarvapitri Amavasya, do Panchabali Karma, i.e. offer food to crow, ant, cow, dog and God.
