Officials said on Wednesday that a 53-year-old man died of Guilan-Baire syndrome at a hospital in Mumbai, which is the first fatal due to nervous disorder.

He said that a resident of Vadla area of ​​Mumbai and a patient working as a ward boy in a civil-intended hospital, he had visited Pune some time ago, who has been watching the outbreak of GBS, he said.

Officials said that he was admitted to another civil-operated hospital in Mumbai on 23 January. The man was in critical condition for several days and died on Monday.

GBS is a rare condition in which a person’s immune system attacks peripheral nerves, resulting in muscle weakness, loss of sensation in legs and/or weapons, as well as problems in swallowing or breathing.

The patient was admitted to Nair Hospital on 23 January after complaints of leg weakness.

A BMC release stated that he was shifted to the intensive care unit and put on a ventilator.

“The patient was detected with GBS and was given the necessary treatment for it,” the release states.

He said, “Sixteen days before being hospitalized, the patient visited Pune,” in which a large number of GBS cases have been observed.

The civic body said that the patient did not show symptoms like fever and diarrhea.

Meanwhile, a 16 -year -old girl from neighboring Palghar district is currently undergoing treatment for GBS at Nair Hospital, BMC said.

The girl had fever, but due to proper treatment, her condition has improved, it has been said.

All hospitals and medical colleges in Mumbai were designed for the treatment of GBS patients. Essential medicines, equipment and expertise were available in the city.

Officials said that Mumbai was diagnosed with a 64 -year -old woman who was a 64 -year -old woman who was a resident of (East) in her first GBS case on 7 February on 7 February.

The Pune region has so far reported eight deaths due to GBS.

Health officials said that the total number of suspected and confirmed GBS cases in Maharashtra increased to 203 as five more infections were reported during the day.

The BMC also appealed to the citizens not to panic if they experience any GBS symptoms, and immediately contact the nearest municipal hospital for guidance and treatment.

GBS is a disease that occurs throughout the year and about one person suffers from one lakh people. Therefore, every month, some GBS patients are admitted to major hospitals/medical colleges in Mumbai, BMC said in its statement.

But this is not an infectious disease. It does not spread from one person to another. The exact cause of its spread is unknown, but the disease occurs after infection of the respiratory or digestive system, it was added.
